The Los Angeles Theater, located at 615 S. Broadway in the Los Angeles Theater District, in Los Angeles, California has a remarkable connection to two of the most audacious hit movies in Hollywood history, Charlie Chaplin’s City Lights (1931), and Michel Hazanavicius’The Artist (2011). Filmed 80 years apart, the two movies share a common conceit – both, against all odds, are presented without spoken dialog. That same Los Angeles Theater appears in the new "Silent Antics" trailer released by Double Espresso promoting their new series debuting on MiShorts in June. "Silent Antics" too will be presented without spoken dialog, perhaps the first and only web series to attempt such a feat in the age of HD Digital perfection.
From 17th to 22nd of April I was giving the animation workshop to the young creative people of Murmansk, Russia. During the workshop they had to create an animation film under my supervision. As a result the movie called "ROFL" was made.
Double Espresso Web Series, a mix of contemporary political, social parodies, parables and satire, returns to MiShorts with its 2nd Season sometime in 2012. A hybrid of classic American sit-com, post-war European theater of the absurd and independent film honed by New York born playwright/actor Michael Arturo into the still evoling medium of the online web series. Our first season featured "Three Card Americano" a parable of the global financial crisis set against the backdrop of Occupy Wall Street and "CornSpiracy" an examination of GMOs and their destructive effect on one American family.
Season 2 features "Silent Antics" a short series of silent films as well as several new "espressodes," comical and tragically-comical.
Watch for Double Espresso's 2nd Season on MiShorts!
During the past 12 months, we have been hard at work negotiating and signing content agreements with mobile carriers, web-based VoD services, aggregators and cable/satellite stations in Europe, the US and India. We have also opened a Melbourne office to market our films within the Australasian region and will be visiting China later this year to start the process of providing shorts to the country’s 1 billion mobile phone users.
The reason we’re telling you all this is because we need your films to help make it work - for us all - as our library of 1,000 titles may not be enough to meet demand. English-language shorts are becoming very popular with mobile users in emerging markets and we need a constant supply of new work to satisfy this interest. Submitting films is easy with the latest version of our MiEncode uploader and we are particularly keen to receive HD shorts under 10 minutes duration, although longer projects are OK.
For more information about our international activities, generous cash and revshare rates and the agreements we’ve signed, please write to firstname.lastname@example.org for a fact-sheet. You can also click on these links:
During the weekend of October 22/23, we experienced a major server issue involving the failure of a storage drive which automatically shut down our service. In addition to replacing the drive, we took the opportunity to upgrade our storage and backup systems which unfortunately involved the site being down for almost two weeks.
On Sunday, November 6 full service was resumed and everything is now back to normal. We apologise for any inconvenience this caused.

They say Maltepe was a Greek fishing village in oldtimes. This coastline is a place I do walking and workout near by, meeting place with some friends for drinking & eating also a place with full of some childhood memories...
When I was a kid, Maltepe had less population. It was a quite place and popular with its clean sea. We were going the famous SureyyaBeach for swimming and relaxing in the tea gardens while we were drinking our tea near the coast. During that time, not only Maltepe coastline, also all coastline area from Bostancı to Tuzla has completely changed. It has been filled. SureyyaBeach has been destroyed and the sea has polluted the beaches. But this area is still one of the most beautiful places in Istanbul Asian side with its nature and habitat.
As far as I know COASTLANDERS 8 to 8 is the first documentary not only about Maltepe Coastline and SureyyaBeach also about Maltepe itself. So it is honor for me and I’m ecstatic about it!
I love oral history as Flamenco storytelling. It gives me a sincere feeling about the individuals and memories of the interviewees. That’s why I wanted to interview the people who understands the old days of Maltepe Coastline and Sureyya Beach, and who have been living here for a long time. I didn’t want to add or say something extra so I let them tell their own stories which created the script of my movie right after I edited and rearranged them in post production process. I shot the movie –including interviews- within in 1 day (except some extra shots which were not possible at the same say ) as its name from until . It was very hectic and tiring day with a lot of sunburn as well...
As a director, I worked with different TV channels and production companies for making TV programs or promotional films. I also worked as a freelance director for shooting some promotional films. In the past I made some short movies as co producer, executive producer and worked as production coordinator, art director, director assistant and actress. On the other hand COASTLANDERS is my first short documentary as producer also director. I made this short humble documentary with a very low budget and hard conditions. I wanted to thank all the people who helped me and for understanding my movie. Kudos goes out to my small crew, my lovely interviewees and my musician friend Umur Türel with its touchy song “Crying Out”. Many thanks to my parents, my brother and close friends for their patience for me during this process.
I've just found out my film ‘Brief Encounter’ has been chosen for September 2011. I'm so happy that my short film has been selected, I'm very proud: my short try to see the reality through a neo-realism view, maybe loose it on quality because I use old fashion Super 8 mm mix with Canon HD, but this is my choice, my leitmotiv. Maybe I'm against special effect, maybe I like the reality just how it is. I love Black and White films. I hope you enjoy the film and all my films: http://www.mishorts.com/1538-brief-encounter. Michelle Thomas (aka Coco Forsythe) sits on the advisory committee of the British Independent Film Awards and has been a FutureMovies editor and reviewer for the past five years. Her ‘proper’ job is in film marketing and although preferring indie/arthouse fare, she confesses to enjoying a bit of mindless entertainment now and then.
Inspired by the eponymous Noel Coward screen classic, this is the story of a love affair blighted by cigarettes. As it features many close-ups of cigarettes and mouths and lots of beautifully lit smoke, it is perhaps not a film to watch with someone who is trying to give up. There is no dialogue, but great sound design contributes to the atmosphere largely dominated by a mysterious semi-naked woman wreathed in smoke. The film concludes with the hyper-romantic strains of Rachmaninoff and a clip from Brief Encounter playing ‘Thank you for coming back to me.’

When I was a child, me and couple of my friends were very interested in playing around abandoned houses. We used to call them “Haunted Houses”. I loved them, though they scared me some.
I find these abandoned houses helpless, sad in a state of condemnation and loneliness. It seems that they have an amount of pride and integrity even in the state they’re in. People neither live in, nor collapse them. Basically, they’re just “hanging around.” People just pass by them without caring nor wondering, taking for granted their destiny to disappear bit by bit.
A home is a very special place which gives us privacy and provides us with a warm, secure nest. It’s our shelter. As a community, we have shared love, joy, happiness and bad times with seemly mixed emotions in these houses. In appearance, it gives a somewhat claustrophobic effect. Almost like our relationships with our love ones. Once we cruelly leave these houses to their loneliness, the house turns into a devastated place as time passes. Like abandoned lovers. These houses are very gothic for me because they bring weirdness which is actually enormously familiar to us normally. Take a word like “Heim” that means home in German and “Unheimlich” (Unhomely) means “creepy, spooky, uncanny”. These two words have the same root “home”. I find them very charming and interesting. The correlation between them is relevant to our lifes.
Of course there are many other abandoned houses in Istanbul but i just wanted to focus on the ones in my neighborhood only. I aim to help these houses with my movie because if Metrukis screened so many festivals or broadcasted some TV channels the authorities or rich investors may want to refurbish couple of them as they are historical old houses. I consider it to be kind of a duty on my behave to brighten my neighborhood and glorify something that has meaning as well as history.
The Image is a perpetual abstraction which controlling our way of life and our social cogitation. In response, we create the reaction. Through this, we use the Image in the purpose to imagine our freedom, our cries, our drifts, our social struggles. We belong to her as she belongs to us. We use it as an ultimate form of human perspective. The charm is definitely established.
A flirt, a romance emerges in us. In Dependence and Independence.
